I can barely keep my eyes open, so here’s a poem I wrote a few years ago.


Balancing Act

Balancing on tiptoe,
the little girl watches
her grandma rolling the dough for the tortillas,
the woman’s aged fingers moving
slowly but confidently
dividing the dough into balls
that are eagerly flattened by the girl’s chubby fingers
This memory of her beloved deceased grandma
actually
never
happened
but it’s always nice to pretend
