…into the second night…

When I first watched this video, I got choked up when Kamala Harris lit the shamash, which caught me off guard. The shamash candle is the “helper” because it is used each night to light the increasing number of candles, bringing more light into the physical darkness. It struck me that Kamala herself is a shamash in this terrible year that was devoid of any light for so long.

When the election was finally called for Biden/Harris, I burst into the happiest of tears. Once I had time to truly digest that a woman of color is going to be vice president, it finally hit me how important this moment is to so many people.

And if that isn’t the perfect example of spreading the light, then I don’t know what is.
