Counting the Omer

16 days of the Omer, which is two weeks and two days

My mom was in a work accident the day after Christmas that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. The past four months have been frustrating, scary, and uncertain as my mom is not yet fully recovered and I’ve taken on more responsibilities at home. She sees a neuropsychologist on Thursday, which should give us some answers or at least a clearer picture of what’s going on.

2020 was a year full of rapid changes and 2021 seems to be continuing the pattern. I desperately want things to go back to normal, but I don’t even know what normal would look like at this point.

  1. One thing I know is that the brain is more resilient than we know. My mother was epileptic and over time the ‘grand mal’ episodes stopped but she still endured long episodes. Part of it could have had to do with lots of medication changes until Dr.s got it right. Over time, those reduced in intensity so much that into my adulthood I noticed her ability to ‘control’ the more subtitle episodes she endured throughout her life while changing diet & different foods.
Medicine has come such a long way when it comes to brain health from the 70s & 80s and I know she is in good hands with you as her advocate. It is never easy when our roles change as children but it is another layer of the love we show to one another. Praying you take good care of yourself too as you continue the loving care of your Mom.
