Day 39
On The Power of Memory
If one day, I might give up
I hope I remember the kindness I’ve encountered
And not the times I’ve felt alone
I hope I remember the warm welcome
And the wonder of that first class
I hope I remember people knowing my name
Even though I didn’t know them
I hope I remember the warmth of the mikvah
And the joy of carrying the Torah
I hope I remember the kids I’ve taught,
Even the ones who gave me trouble
And if one day, I might give up
I hope that someone will remind me
That a community stands behind me
Even if I do not feel it
