Day Nine
Today was just one of those days where nothing goes as expected and, in my case, you find yourself wanting to curl up in a corner and cry without really knowing why. I’ve been told more than once to be positive and everything will work out, which is, quite honestly, one of the most aggravating statements you can make to someone with depression. I can tell you from experience that it’s not so easy to lift yourself out of the darkness. It can take enormous amounts of energy just to do everyday things like getting dressed or going to work. If I am able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I can cope, but if it seems like endless darkness, it’s much harder.
One of the things I love about Judaism is that there is a blessing or prayer for almost anything and if there’s not, you can create one. RitualWell is a great resource of prayers and rituals for those moments when you don’t know what to do. The prayer below is one that I find comforting because it acknowledges how hard it can be to stay hopeful.
Blessings on Sadness
For when you are too sad to remember:
May your sadness be felt as deeply as it needs to be
And may it lift in its proper time.May you understand that just because some people can’t be there at your sadness
Doesn’t mean they don’t love you.May you be able to take pleasure in the pleasures of those around you
Even when you can’t feel your own.And may you not lose hope in the possibility of your own happiness,
Even when it is out of your line of sight.
