2017 Day-By-Day

Day 15

Listen to the MUSTN’TS, child.
Listen to the DON’TS
Listen to the SHOULDN’TS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON’TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me-
Anything can happen, child,
ANYTHING can be.

Shel Silverstein

Today was one of those days that slaps me across the face and makes me wonder why I decided to teach fourth graders about Judaism on Sundays. I’m an only child and never babysat when I was younger, so it’s taken me a couple of years to figure out how to relate to kids and make the subjects come alive to them.

Sometimes Sundays go great and I come out feeling pumped, ready to take on more. But most Sundays, I’m dragging my exhausted body out the door and the only thing I want to do is collapse into a bed. On closing day last year, I was ready for another year and was even excited for all the things I imagined doing with my class. Right now, I don’t even know if I want to teach next year.
