The brain is an amazing organ. It has the ability to do almost anything, from how you absorb information to which parts do what to how it directs the rest of the body. Lately I’ve been in awe of the lengths the brain will go to in an effort to protect you, specifically its ability to block traumatic memories. I haven’t done any real research on how this works, but I imagine that the brain simply can’t process what has happened and will go into survival mode. Somehow it knows that if it doesn’t bury the memory, the results will be devastating.
That’s pretty damn useful and, frankly, merciful of the brain to do that.
