Four Months

Dear Eliza,

You are four months old today! You started preschool three weeks ago and you’re doing so well. You’re scooting and partially rolling, plus you are so talkative now. You love your teachers and watching you with the other babies in your class is wonderful.

You also love when people sing to you and my new favorite thing is to sing Hinei Mah Tov and the dinosaur Shabbat song for you. Your papa loves hearing me sing to you, which tickles me because I don’t think I have a very good voice and pre-motherhood I never would have sung in front of other people. But I do it for you because when you giggle, it’s the best thing and your smile melts my heart every time. It’s unbelievable how much I love you and this beautiful family we have.

You had your naming a few weeks ago and it was beautiful. Standing with you and Papa in front of the ark as you received your Hebrew name was incredibly moving. You came into my life over a year after your grandma died and have made me appreciate her so much more. I desperately wish you could meet her and that she could hold you. You would have been the light of her life. Every time I see a butterfly now, I like to think that it’s her checking on me and watching you grow.

After I took your four month picture today (with Papa’s help, of course), I held you as you slept and I cried. I feel overwhelmed with so much right now, but you are my number one priority. I can’t believe that I’m lucky enough to be your mama and I am so grateful that you have such a strong and loving family and community.

I never really understood that phrase “the days are long, but the years are short” until you came along. You are growing so fast and already showing a distinct personality. I can’t wait to watch you grow into your own person but I also want time to slow way down. I’m just trying to savor every moment, even the tough and sleep-deprived ones. You are truly my sunshine each and every day. Thank you for choosing us as your family.

Love,

Mama
