Day 222
We had a staff meeting about Israel and security at our synagogue today. When violence against Jews occurs, here or abroad, our immediate concerns are about the reprecussions that could reverberate in our backyard. It’s not a good way for anyone to live, but it’s the reality of being a Jew and/or working in a Jewish organization.
Many of us on staff have personal ties to Israel, spiritual ties as well as friends and family. There are Israelis on staff as well, including some who lived at one of the kibbutzim that were brutally attacked. It was a somber meeting that resulted in a lot of tears. It brought up a lot of questions for me personally, questions I’m trying to figure out and not ready to ask out loud.
